On Monday night WGSN-homebuildlife attended a midnight dinner called Underkitchen by Arabeschi di Latte at Studio Toogood' s exhibition Natura Morta, which is showing this week during the Salone del Mobile. Natura Morta is the Italian term for "still life" but literally translates as "dead nature". The exhibition aims to examine the darker side of the natural world.
Held in an apartment building in Milan's Brera district, guests were invited into a series of candle lit rooms where various unusual delicacies were proffered by waitresses dressed in long black dresses and sculptural headpieces designed by Zara Gorman.
The dark mood of the exhibition extended to the food that was served, which included Morbier cheese sprinkled with charcoal and salt and served upon chunks of charcoal, chinese tea eggs, black bread dipped in water and brown sugar, and burnt artichoke hearts.
On show were erotic drawings by Piero Fornasetti as well as Studio Toodgood's new collection called Assemblage 2. The new pieces were made using rough, elemental materials including leather, sand, cast aluminum, melted pewter, bronze, wax and resin. The erotic theme of Piero Fornasetti's drawings was also captured in Studio Toogood's leather chairs which were hand stitched by highly skilled craftsmen who also make fetish wear.
