Muji's Product Fitness 80

Marking one year since the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, Product Fitness 80 at London's Design Museum showcases a selection of redesigned Muji products that reduce waste and energy consumption by an impressive 20%.

Muji's on/off plug, made from recycled PET bottles, reduces the amount of electricity wasted through leaving appliances on standby by 10%.

The moulded sofa shown above is made from a polyurethane foam which rises like a cake to fill the mould, eliminating the waste produced by traditional methods.

The dimensions of standardised products which are taken for granted are reconsidered: here, sticky-tape is narrowed and functionality is not affected.
