Mario Trimarchi has designed a series of geometric silicone food moulds for Italian design house Alessi that create miniature pieces of food architecture.
Called Il Tempo della Festa (Holiday Time), the series is available in black, white, peach, kiwi and mango, and is sold with a set of recipes devised by chef Alberto Gozzi with graphic design by Trimarchi.
“Timbales are a central theme when it comes to pastry tools. The typology [of the moulds] encourages indulging exercises of pure decoration: just think of all the different shapes and sizes that have adorned kitchens over the centuries," says Alberto Alessi.
The designer was inspired by the words of Marie-Antoine Carême, the 19th century chef who pioneered the concept of haute cuisine and famously said: “The fine arts are five in number: painting, sculpture, poetry, music, and architecture, the principal branch of the latter being pastry.”
