HBL Events: Siren Elise Wilhelmsen at Normann Copenhagen

In August earlier this year, Norwegian designer Siren Elise Wilhelmsen won the Time to Design Award award with her project, Developing Time – Time Developing, which is both a clock and a knitting machine. Siren is currently exhibiting a whole family of knitting clocks at the Normann Copenhagen store in Denmark. The clocks have been created at the Danish Art Workshops and will be on show for two weeks. The Knitting Clock-project was designed to measure and register time in a three dimensional form to visualise the otherwise invisible time factor, which connects us all. The project can best be described as a merge of a knitting machine and a cuckoo clock. Every passing of a half hour is marked by the knitting of a mesh, a full day is registered in 48 meshes and a year results in an approximately two metres long scarf.

Time to design was established in 2008 and is an international design award was established to create a unique platform for young design talents within the design industry. The winner is granted with three months residency at the National Workshops for Arts and Crafts, 50.000 DKK donated by the Danish Association of Wood and Furniture Industries, and a two week exhibition in Normann Copenhagen Flagship Store. This year the winner also received career coaching by the company OeO.
