Venini at Venice Architecture Biennale

For the 13th International Architecture Exhibition, the new permanent Le Stanze del Vetro exhibition space (which literally translates to "Rooms for Glass") at Fondazione Giorgio Cini will be inaugurated with a show exploring Carlo Scarpa's history at legendary glass house Venini.

Fondazione Cini

Curated by Marino Barovier,  Carlo Scarpa: Venini 1932–1947 will open on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice, on 29th August, and will include over 300 works that reconstruct Carlo Scarpa’s creative development as artistic director of the Venini Glassworks from 1932 to 1947.

Due to run until 29th November 2012, the Scarpa exhibition is the first public event of Le Stanze del Vetro, a long-term cultural project launched by the Giorgio Cini Foundation in collaboration with Pentagram Stiftung, for the purpose of studying and showcasing the art of Venetian glassmaking in the 20th century.

The new permanent exhibition space is designed to host a series of solo and group shows featuring international artists, both contemporary and historical, who have used glass during their careers - as an original means of expression, and a medium for researching their own personal aesthetic.

The aim is to illustrate the potential of the medium, putting glass back at the centre of the design industry's attention and creating discussion on the international art scene.
