HBL Exhibitions: mischer'traxler's first Italian retrospective

Limited Moths by mischer'traxler

Turin gallery Novalis Fine Arts will present the first Italian retrospective of Austrian design duo mischer'traxler this November. Curated by Maria Cristina Didero, the show will examine their key projects and overall approach to date - which the designers describe as having a "focus on experiments, context and conceptual thinking".

The Idea of a Tree by mischer'traxler

Since founding their studio in 2009, Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler have consistently caught the attention of the design world, winning the DMY Award in their founding year and being crowned Designers of the Future at the Salone del Mobile 2011.

Projects range from the process-based, such as cake decorating machine Till You Stop (2010), to the poetic: The Idea of a Tree (2008) winds threads into vessels using solar energy, just as a tree would grow. Many of their projects draw on their joint working process - most obviously in It Takes More Than One (2011), a mirror which only works when two people stand before it. WGSN-homebuildlife subscribers will also be familiar with their work, as the Reverse Volume series (2010) features in our report, A Forager's Tabletop.

Mischer'traxler runs 6 November - 6 December 2011 at Novalis Fine Arts, via Maria Vittoria 19, 10123 Torino.
